Launch
BioLogo is the Windows application that implements LogoLife.
Launch BioLogo the same way you would launch any Windows application.
Double click on the application's icon, or select it from your Start
menu, and the BioLogo will launch and display its main window. The
main window is small and contains nothing except the menu bar.
New Population
In the BioLogo main window, select the File menu, and select the
New Population command.
This will cause a dialog box to be displayed asking you for some
parameters. For now, simply accept the default values and click OK.
You will now see a new Population window. The window will contain a number
of turtles that have been randomly generated for you.
Evaluate
Evaluate the more interesting turtles that you see in the Population
window by Right-clicking the mouse on the turtle's drawing. This will
cause the drawing to be blown up to fill the entire window. This will
let you see the color and detail of the drawing. Left-clicking the
mouse anywhere in the window will dismiss the blown up drawing and
display the population again. Right-click, left-click.
Select
Hold down the Shift key and left-click on one of the turtle drawings
that you do not like. This will change the drawing's border from blue,
which indicates the turtle can participate in reproduction, to red,
which indicates the turtle does not get to reproduce.
Shift-left-clicking again will change the color back to blue. Mark
red as many turtles as you wish.
Evolve
From the File menu, select the Evolve Population command. You will
notice the cursor change from an arrow to an hourglass. The turtles
are reproducing. Once the reproduction is completed, the new turtles'
drawings will be displayed for you.
Repeat
Evaluate, select, evolve, repeat.
